Sample Research Projects:

Progressive Collapse of Buildings: Experimental and analytical investigation of progressive collapse of building structures. The research involves testing of building components, static and dynamic analysis of the system and members, and evaluation of current design guidelines.

Research on Reinforced Concrete: Several students in the research group have been working on development and implementation of computer models to investigate the strength and deformation response of reinforced concrete structures and their components, including columns and beam-column joints, under extreme loading conditions such as earthquakes. The research also includes evaluation, repair and strengthening of concrete structures and components.

Evaluation and Field Testing of Culverts: Ohio Department of Transportation maintains a large population of culverts under highways. Each culvert potentially has a different fill type and height, and is subjected to different loading conditions. This research includes field testing of selected culverts and validation of existing software and tools used in the design and evaluation of culverts.

Value Assessment and Sustainability of Concrete Structures: Investigation of sustainability of cast-in-place and precast/prestressed concrete structures including life cycle cost analysis.

Dynamic Response of Structures and Earthquake Reconnaissance: Investigation of dynamic response, seismic performance evaluation, and structural modeling and analysis of variety of structures including above-ground liquid-containing storage tanks and monumental structures.
