Laboratories and Centers
Center for Mapping
The Center for Mapping at The Ohio State University (OSU) was established in 1986 as a Center for the Commercial Development of Space (CCDS) under a NASA grant. The Center for Mapping's uniqueness lies in the fact that its core competencies are at the intersection of: (1) geoinformation science, geomatics and spatial information systems, (2), imaging and image understanding, and (3) experimental engineering development and benchmarking. The Center for Mapping combines all three competency areas and is able to embed that knowledge into its research and development activities.
Coastal Sediment Transport Lab
The Coastal Sediment Transport Lab conducts field and numerical research on environmental fluid mechanics. Research is focused on the small scale dynamics of waves and currents over a seabed with the goal to study beach erosion, the scour around submarine objects, and the resuspension of contaminated sediments.

Mapping and GIS Laboratory
The Mapping and GIS Lab at Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Geodetic Science conducts research and development in the following areas:
1. Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry
2. Mobile Mapping Technology, Pattern Recognition and Neuron Computing
3. GIS / LIS applications
